July 14 – Storming of the Bastille

Bastille had its military governor named Bernard- Rene Jordan de Launay. On the turmoil of the revolution, he thought of reinforcing his fortress to save himself.

He started transferring 250 barrels of gunpowder. A group of the armed crowd with swords, makeshift weapons seized the gunpowder and captured Launay.

It was expected that he would be arrested from hotel de Ville but he was pulled by the mob and murdered. The irresistible momentum of the revolution can be estimated from this incidence.
